Laureate na nÓg Annual Lecture

Laureate na nÓg will deliver an annual public lecture on a subject that is of importance to them as a writer/illustrator of childrens books.

An Dara Léacht – Second Lecture

4th November 2022 at 6pm – Suite 1, INEC Killarney

Áine Ní Ghlinn will deliver her second Laureate Lecture on Friday, November 4th as part of the annual Oireachtas na Gaeilge. ‘An Bosca Leabharlainne – Tionscnaimh Laureate na nÓg’ will look at the major project completed during Áine's Laureateship, An Bosca Leabharlainne.

With support from the Arts Council and Foras na Gaeilge, more than half a million euro was spent on the scheme and more than 70,000 Irish language books distributed to schools across the island of Ireland. Áine will speak about the project itself, as well as sharing her experience of encouraging children to read as Gaeilge for pleasure.

Beidh ‘Léacht an Laureate’, an dara léacht de chuid Laureate na nÓg, Áine Ní Ghlinn, ar siúl ag Oireachtas na Gaeilge, Dé hAoine an 4ú Samhain ag 6pm

Labhróidh Áine faoi thionscnamh léitheoireachta Laureate na nÓg, An Bosca Leabharlainne. Le maoiniú ón gComhairle Ealaíon agus Foras na Gaeilge, caitheadh níos mó ná leathmhilliún euro ar an scéim seo agus bronnadh níos mó ná seachtó mile leabhar Gaeilge ar bhunscoileanna ar fud an oileáin. Míneoidh Áine an tionscnamh féin agus roinnfidh sí smaointe  maidir le páistí a spreagadh chun spraoi agus taitneamh a bhaint as léitheoireacht na Gaeilge.

The inaugural Laureate na nÓg public lecture was delivered by the 6th Laureate, Áine  Ghlinn in December 2020, in partnership with Words Ireland and Dublin Book Festival.

Áine’s stated ambition as Laureate na nÓg is to lift the cloak of invisibility from Irish language writing for children. But what does that mean for her as writer? And why it is important for her creative process to have parity of esteem with artists who write in English? In this, the inaugural Laureate na nÓg lecture, she explores the creative freedom and limitations anonymity brings.
