The Big Picture – Episode 12: PJ meets Australian Laureate Leigh Hobbs

Last month the Australian Children’s Laureate Leigh Hobbs visited Ireland.

PJ and Leigh met at the Bologna Book Fair in April and really hit it off.  He invited Leigh to visit Ireland and take part in a series of events celebrating children’s picture books.

Together they held a morning of workshops at Ballyholme Primary School in Bangor Co. Down, where they were given a regal welcome by the pupils and staff.

That evening PJ and Leigh took part in a panel discussing the role of Children’s Literature Laureates called From Australia With Love at Lexicon in Dun Laoighre. Former Laureates Niamh Sharkey and Siobhán Parkinson also spoke at the event, which was attended by the Australian Ambassador.

The next day the Irish and Australian Laureates hosted a workshop for local school children in the children’s library at Lexicon.

PJ showed the children how anyone can draw a characterful face using only the letters from the word SCAMPI.

Leigh showed the children how to draw his Old Tom character.

It’s the 12th installment of the Big Picture Video Project.
