Laureate na nÓg helps celebrate North South Literacy partnership

Siobhán Parkinson, today visited one of the events being held as part of a joint North-South Children’s Book Programme.

The programme, which is being supported by both Education Departments, is running in conjunction with Children’s Books Ireland’s annual Book Festival. It will see storytelling and creative writing events happening across Ireland that are specifically aimed at encouraging parents to read with their children. Today’s event was hosted by Saint Patrick’s Academy in Lisburn, where award winning children’s author Alan Durant hosted a creative writing workshop for Year 8 (1st year post-primary) pupils.

Laureate webcast for schools and Libraries – October 12th

To celebrate Children’s Books Festival, Laureate na nÓg Siobhán Parkinson will participate in a special webcast. Siobhan will be in conversation with Bisto Award winning author and illustrator Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick and school and library groups all over the country are encouraged to tune in from their own classroom or library via South Dublin Libraries live stream.

This event will be live streamed from County Library, Tallaght. You can tune in live on October 12th at 11.30am or you can view the interview at a  later date by visiting  http://www.southdublinlibraries.ie/videos

Young readers can submit their questions to Laureate Siobhan Parkinson in advance of the broadcast by emailing info@childrensbooksireland.ie. A selection of questions will be answered during the event and any questions that don’t get answered on the day will be answered afterwards by Siobhán on this site.

Remember students can ask any question they’d like – about Siobhán, about any of her books you might have read and about her plans as Laureate. The event will commence at 11.30am on Tuesday 12th October on www.southdublinlibraries.ie/videos
